Villa Appalaccia Winery is a taste of Tuscany in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Located off the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway between milepost #170 & #171, it is one of the more unique wineries in the state of Virginia. Villa Appalaccia is a Virginia farm winery, producing wine in a local vineyard established in 1989. The Italian villa that is home to the winery is straight out of a postcard from Tuscany.
Over 30 years ago, the Villa opened its doors. In 2018 the winery was sold and entrusted to its new owners, Tim and Julie Block. Originally from Wisconsin, Tim and Julie came to Floyd from Lake Norman, just north of Charlotte, North Carolina. Tim comes from more than 40 years in the restaurant business while Julie, our winemaker, has retired from the healthcare industry.
Family is important to Tim and Julie. Before making the commitment to buy a winery, they wanted their two children and their children’s spouses to see the winery. The kids were excited, and once they visited the Villa, they understood. Not only did they accept the idea—they loved it. So much so, in fact, that they left their respective homes in Charlotte and Washington, D.C. and moved in across the parkway! Son-in-law, Heyward Smith, is now the winery manager. And you can often see some combination of the three grandchildren and "grand-dogs" running around!
Salute from Tim and Julle!
